I've been there.
After taking some lessons as a kid (that really went nowhere) I taught myself much of what I know today. But there was a problem: I didn't know what I didn't know.
I'm Kevin O'Shaughnessy, founder of Independent Guitarist. Like you, I got pretty good at guitar by teaching myself. But no matter the topic, there was always a point where I'd hit a wall; there was only so far I could take myself.
So I went back to taking lessons, I went to music school (twice!), and I learned A LOT! So much in fact that I still felt overwhelmed, this time by knowing too much.
It took a long time but I eventually discovered that it was more productive to learn one technique that I could use a hundred different ways than it was to learn a hundred techniques I could only use one way.
Switching from strumming chords to playing melody? No big deal. There's a pick-hand motion that covers both.
Trouble soloing? The answer isn't more scales. It's one finger pattern that can be used in many contexts.
With simplicity comes flexibility. And that's what you'll learn here.
Your journey toward freedom on the guitar begins right here.
Sitting properly with the guitar is the first step to mastering the instrument. I didn't believe it either when I was younger. I didn't think it was cool to focus on such things until I started developing repetitive stress injuries. That's why I created this free guide to ensure that you don't have to suffer the same issues.
