What Is an "Independent Guitarist"?Â

Put simply, an Independent Guitarist is one who is free from road blocks, becoming free to do what they want on the instrument.
Welcome! I'm Kevin O'Shaughnessy, the creator of Independent Guitarist. Do you struggle with any of these issues:Â
- Pain while playing the guitar
- Poor strumming and/or picking technique
- Improvising/Soloing
- Composing music
You are not alone. Whether you’re a hobbyist or an aspiring professional, you don’t want to deal with pain or having to learn a thousand scales.Â
You want to be able to pick up the guitar and just make good music with it.Â
Lucky for you, we’re living in the Information Age and there are solutions to these and many other problems… IF you know what you’re looking for.Â
Here's how Independent Guitarist can help you... TODAY!
Your favorite guitar players–especially those who say they were “self-taught”–were born with certain skills to help them get started. That’s called “talent.”
In reality, we’re all born with things we’re good at, and things we’re not.Â
Not everyone has the same amount of talent, nor do they have talent in the same areas.Â
This is good news for you!
Because it means that whatever talent you lack, you can learn.Â
That’s where I come in. I’ve made so many mistakes learning to play the guitar that I had to relearn the instrument several times over.Â
I’ve had to do the research and put in the hours to get myself to a professional level. I had to compensate for lack of “talent” in certain areas of my musical journey.Â
All that research and trial and error led me to develop the skills I wasn’t born with. Â
But you don’t have to spend years falling down rabbit holes to discover this stuff for yourself.
Can’t I just search “how to be a better guitar player” on YouTube?
We live in an incredible period when it comes to education. It’s everywhere! YouTube, websites, blogs, online courses, you name it. There is no shortage of information.Â
But is it the right information for you?
If you haven’t gotten the results you’re looking for after watching dozens of videos, I’d say probably not. You’re wasting your time.
Content creators tend to make content based on what will please the almighty algorithms… NOT on what you actually need.Â
Many content creators may not even think to create content about certain fundamental conecpts and techniques because they never struggled with them themselves.Â
I’m here to fill in the gaps left by nearly the entire guitar teaching industry.Â
There are so many “little” things overlooked by the majority of guitar teachers. Ignored over time, these gaps can balloon into big roadblocks.
Some of these “little things” ignored by most teachers–that actually have big impacts–include:
- Adjusting your posture to eliminate pain while playing
- The proper body mechanics to make your strumming fluid and musical, and your picking precise
- Developing your “ear” so that you can understand the music your listening to before you even try to play it
- Actual strategies to help you write songs or create ripping solos
This is what I mean by “free from roadblocks” that interfere with your playing. If you haven’t been taught how to sit properly with the guitar, that’s a gap that will slow down your progress.
The effects of these gaps can show up in different ways. In the case of sitting with the guitar, it can make you feel pain in your wrist, neck, or back. That’s a gap.Â
Anything that sends you “down the rabbit hole” searching for information for hours on end is a gap. And that’s keeping you from taking your playing to the next level.Â
Now you can close these gaps without spending countless hours combing blogs and videos trying to figure out what even ARE the gaps you’re trying to fill?
It’s all right here in one place for you. Fill in the gaps so you’re free to play whatever you want.
This is the freedom I offer you.Â
